Fete
Held on July 1st – this jolly occasion attracted plenty of visitors who enjoyed the various attractions on offer. Many thanks to all who helped before, during and after the event – too many to name-and all who attended and spent so generously. The money raised, with funds already raised during the year, -hundred club and raffle, – amounted to more than £3000 which meant £1,500 went to both the Hall and Church with £329 left for future expenses, possibly some gazebos in the sales. WELL DONE EVERYBODY.
Church News
The weekend of 15th/16th July was a celebratory one with both a wedding and baptism, both very happy occasions-please see elsewhere in this issue.
Ride & Stride
This biannual event in aid of the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust will take place on Saturday 9th September. The Trust has been very generous to St John’s over the years, helping with grants towards the spire, heating and chancel roof, to mention just three.
We are always open to greet cyclists and walkers and ask for help to ‘man ‘ the Church from 10am—6pm to greet them. In the past various residents have cycled for this cause but now it is time for younger participants. You can find a lovely route around the 7 churches of our benefice, avoiding the A6003 or go mad and try to visit all the churches of Rutland in the day. Come on – give it a try.
More information from Mary on 770242 and we could lend out a couple of adult bikes.
Community Speed Watch
The recent Community speed watch, organised by the Parish council in collaboration with Rutland District Council and Leicestershire Police, proved a great success. It was undertaken by 12 volunteers between 12th and 25th June and led to 74 warning letters being sent out by Leicestershire Police. Thank you to all the volunteers who donated their time to train and undertake the speed watch.
