AFTERNOON TEA

In aid of Breast Cancer Now on 20th September – this was a lovely event which raised £500 for the cause. A good number of hungry people enjoyed a splendid traditional tea produced by the Ladies Group.

A very big thank you to everyone who attended, to Eyebrook Bird Foods, and to all those who donated their generous raffle prizes.

Special thanks to Hazel, Barbara, June and Rosemary for such a spread, and also to Hazel (junior) and Thomas, who helped with the raffle and competitions.

BINGO

Another jolly event enjoyed by all ages, from 7 weeks to nearly 90! This raised £138.00 for church funds.

Thanks to Sam for organising it and being a brilliant MC, to Rachel for calling, and to all the other helpers.

HARVEST THANKSGIVING

The service will be at 11.00am on Sunday 12th October.

Any offers of produce and help with decorating will be very welcome, and the “Make Me an Offer” sale will take place after the service. Please bring cash and large bags – there are always good things to be bought!

Proceeds will go to the Addington Fund, which helps farmers and their families who are experiencing difficulties or sickness.

The “Make a Weird Animal” competition (using fruit, vegetables and cocktail sticks) will be judged after the service. Please display your creations on the tables in the south aisle.

TOWER NEWS

Following the eviction of the pigeons and the removal of much guano, it was found that woodworm had been busy. The architect has visited, more scaffolding has gone up, and now the flooring is to be repaired and treated. This saga seems to go on endlessly, but we hope the end will be soon!

The extra cost means more grants will be applied for, and donations towards this work would be very welcome.

RIDE AND STRIDE

For the Rutland Historic Churches Preservation Trust – held on 13th September.

Seventeen participants visited St John’s, and three Caldecott families took part, including four children. Thanks to them, and to the church recorders who greeted the 17 visitors.

Half of the sponsorship money raised by participants goes to their nominated church, and half to the Trust, who have been very generous to St John’s over the years.

QUIZ

The annual Church Quiz will take place on Saturday 8th November, 7.00pm for a prompt 7.30pm start.

This will be the last one Revd Canon Jane Baxter compiles before her retirement next year, so we look forward to a good turnout.

Tables of up to six, or join others on the night.

Tickets £10 – to include a supper of soup and delicious puddings – from Mary on 770242.

There will be a raffle, so please bring cash.
